Title Sequence Clips

               I always thought that the opening scene was used to get the viewer involved and invested in the film. This is true that is what it is used for but there is so much more that is happening in the opening scene. The opening scene can be used in multiple ways, for example, the movie Trainspotting introduces all the characters in the opening scene. The opening scene of Trainspotting shows that all the characters have no care left and do whatever they want to do. This is important to the story because it sets the personalities of all the characters and gives you an overview of who these people are. Not only that the opening scene lets you know what the main character is about, which is heroin.

               Let’s take the opening scene for Pulp Fiction, the opening scene starts off at a diner with what seems like a regular couple eating. As the scene progresses, we learn that this not an ordinary couple, this couple robs people. As we continue throughout the scene, they come to the conclusion that they are going to rob the diner they are at. This opening scene is more to get the viewer interested in the movie and want to keep watching. I believe that this is the use of the opening scene and that there is not any hidden meaning other than to get the viewer interested in the movie.

               Opening scenes Goldfinder is to let the viewer know what the movie is about. Goldfinder does a great job at this, letting the viewer know that this is a James Bond movie. Using the classic song for James Bond to let you know this is a James Bond movie. Throughout the opening scene, we see James infiltrate a drug lab and place explosives in it. He then proceeds to get into a tuxedo and joins the party, then he meets a girl in a room. With a twist that no one was expecting she was working with someone to try and kill him, obviously they fail. This opening scene shows you what the rest of this movie is about, a trained assassin that looks good while working. Not every movie can do this, only movies that you go into knowing what you are going to get to do an opening scene like this one and for it to be good.         

Other opening scenes do more than just get the viewer involved using special effects to captivate the viewer. According to Miles Merril, who wrote the article First Frames: Titles in the Digital Realm. He tells us that David Caesar asked for Anthony Battaglia, who is a graphic designer for movies and tv shows. Caesar asked Battaglia for help when making the opening credits for Dirty Deeds. As said by Miles Merril, “The resulting titles reveal the narrative in wild split screens and wipes of pokie machines being sledge-hammer, and credits appear on rolling one-arm bandit slots.” This makes for a more interesting and captivating opening scene that people will not find boring. Digital effects are an important part of movies, there is even a school for creating digital effects for movies. The Head of Digital Media at the Australian Film Television and Radio School, Peter Giles teaches postgraduate courses for digital effects in movies. He pushes his students to make short films to help improve better at visual effects for movies.

  Dialogue Today I worked on the dialogue with my actors so they will have a better feel of what to say and how to sound natural. I told them that in some clips they can just tell a story of something that may have happened in their life recently. I believe using a story that may have actually happened will sound and feel like they are actual people living their lives. We picked out a few stories that may be good, for example, a story about one of the actor’s actual jobs and how he feels like he may have gotten fired. Another story is of a friend of one of the actor’s brothers and how she helped him clean up some urine off the floor after a party. I also told the actors that they can curse, told them this because I want the dialogue to feel as natural as possible and teenagers curse all the time. Post Production 1

  Post Production 1             The first  thing I started off with changing was the running scene I had; in this scene, I ran at the actors as they were walking away. My original intention was to add suspense to make it look like they were about to be killed but then it cuts to them talking in the car. As one of my peers pointed out this scene felt out of place so I decided to cut the scene from my movie entirely. The next thing I worked on was making the title to the movie bigger than my name at the end. Of course, this was very easy to do all I had to do was click on the title and stretch it out, as well as making my name smaller. The next thing I did was add the actor’s names during the first scene. It starts off with Dylan in the car and as soon as the scene starts his name fades in, then once Nick enters the car his name fades out and Nick’s name fades in. Filming

  Filming             Today I began filming my movie, I should be able to film all my scenes in two hours. What will take us the longest is the driving we will have to do throughout the day but there are some scenes that are filmed inside the car so that works out best for us. We had to redo the first scene because one of the actors turned on music that is copyrighted and I can not put in the film but other than that the first scene went off without a hitch. After that first scene, I secretly filmed some scenes of the two actors just casually talking to each other. I think I might be able to put a few of those conversations in the film. There were more people at Celery Fields that I would have liked but no one bothered us while we filmed so the people were not an issue like I thought they might be.
