Decision Day

               After messing around with the software premier pro in class, I think the software will be very useful during the editing stage of the short film. For what I want to do I do not see myself using Indesign very much unless there is a certain frame I want to edit. Premier pro allows you to mess with the volume of music throughout the film, this will be very helpful towards my idea. My idea is based off of audio to help convey what is happening on screen. The article “Our Place in the Universe: The Importance of Story and Storytelling in the Classroom”, talks about how important storytelling is and how to tell a great story. The article tells us that the brain experiences stories the same as if you were in the narrative. My goal for my project is to have the viewer experience the same emotions being conveyed on screen. I will do this through carefully thought out scenes, using what I learned in class about camera angles and the effect that they have on the viewer. For example, using the extreme wide angle shot to show the isolation of the character and to convey the feeling of loneliness. The article talks about the Four C’s, the Four C’s are critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. These Four C’s according to the article are very important in producing a quality story. I plan on employing these Four C’s to think of a story that will be powerful. The project I will be doing is the short film, first off, I believe the short film will be easier to do than the magazine. I have grown up watching movies and watching critics talk about movies. I have a general sense on what makes a scene good and how it can be impactful towards a whole movie. Secondly, there is less writing that has to be done, I know that writing is still involved but it would be more dialogue between two characters. Lastly, while messing around with both Indesign and Premier Pro, I find Premier Pro easier to use editing film is something I would not mind learning.

Dialogue

  Dialogue Today I worked on the dialogue with my actors so they will have a better feel of what to say and how to sound natural. I told them that in some clips they can just tell a story of something that may have happened in their life recently. I believe using a story that may have actually happened will sound and feel like they are actual people living their lives. We picked out a few stories that may be good, for example, a story about one of the actor’s actual jobs and how he feels like he may have gotten fired. Another story is of a friend of one of the actor’s brothers and how she helped him clean up some urine off the floor after a party. I also told the actors that they can curse, told them this because I want the dialogue to feel as natural as possible and teenagers curse all the time. Post Production 1

  Post Production 1             The first  thing I started off with changing was the running scene I had; in this scene, I ran at the actors as they were walking away. My original intention was to add suspense to make it look like they were about to be killed but then it cuts to them talking in the car. As one of my peers pointed out this scene felt out of place so I decided to cut the scene from my movie entirely. The next thing I worked on was making the title to the movie bigger than my name at the end. Of course, this was very easy to do all I had to do was click on the title and stretch it out, as well as making my name smaller. The next thing I did was add the actor’s names during the first scene. It starts off with Dylan in the car and as soon as the scene starts his name fades in, then once Nick enters the car his name fades out and Nick’s name fades in. Filming

  Filming             Today I began filming my movie, I should be able to film all my scenes in two hours. What will take us the longest is the driving we will have to do throughout the day but there are some scenes that are filmed inside the car so that works out best for us. We had to redo the first scene because one of the actors turned on music that is copyrighted and I can not put in the film but other than that the first scene went off without a hitch. After that first scene, I secretly filmed some scenes of the two actors just casually talking to each other. I think I might be able to put a few of those conversations in the film. There were more people at Celery Fields that I would have liked but no one bothered us while we filmed so the people were not an issue like I thought they might be.
