Storyboarding

Storyboarding             The past few days our class has been working on storyboards to help refine our ideas and get them down on paper. The storyboard was not all that challenging, I had a good idea of what I wanted to do after the concept refinement. Although, this activity did make me think about each scene and what goes in them. Throughout my storyboard the characters go to different locations, so I had to think of how they get there and what the characters are doing while on the way. The storyboard was helpful in putting smaller scenes before others to help build suspense or for more context on the situation. In the article “Storyboarding your way to Success” by James Higgins he talks about four types of storyboarding. The type of storyboarding that I used was the planning storyboard which comprises of all the major ideas. Having all the major scenes I want in my short film on one paper helped me figure out what I ne...

Concept Refinement

AICE Media Studies AS Portfolio Project Concept Refinement Fall 2020 CATEGORY DETAILS Film OR Magazine Film Genre Thriller/Drama Target Audience (Be specific) Young people What is your concept? (Be thorough & specific. Review the links on Blackboard) Young man or woman struggling with a constant melody on loop in their head. At the beginning of the film the melody will be a happy melody with what is being seen on film as a person enjoying their day. As the film progresses things will get much darker. I plan on pitching the melody down a little bit as the film moves on to give the melody a darker outlook. You will see the struggles this individual is going through and how the melody is turning this person insane. At the end of the film I would like to signify a way sign of hope or not all is lost. How did you concei...

Creativity and Genre

Creativity and Genre             Creativity is arguably the most important part of our project. Creativity is what will get us a passing grade, you cannot have something generic that uses classics clichés. Recently in class we watched a Ted Talk about creativity called the Theory of Creativity. During the Ted Talk Duncan Wardle talks about the “river of thinking” this river is just our regular way of thinking which is our barrier to creativity. He the explains to us his time at Disney and how he asked a group of Disney architects to design a new building. Wardle also asked the chef to design the building, all the architects made something regular but the chef made something that was out of the “river of thinking”. Duncan is telling us that we need to think differently when approaching new ideas and this directly correlates to our project we are working on. We can’t think about this project in a lateral way we need to think ...

Decision Day

Decision Day                After messing around with the software premier pro in class, I think the software will be very useful during the editing stage of the short film. For what I want to do I do not see myself using Indesign very much unless there is a certain frame I want to edit. Premier pro allows you to mess with the volume of music throughout the film, this will be very helpful towards my idea. My idea is based off of audio to help convey what is happening on screen. The article “Our Place in the Universe: The Importance of Story and Storytelling in the Classroom”, talks about how important storytelling is and how to tell a great story. The article tells us that the brain experiences stories the same as if you were in the narrative. My goal for my project is to have the viewer experience the same emotions being conveyed on screen. I will do this through carefully thought out scenes, using what I le...

Magazine Cover Review

Magazine Cover Review             The cover of a magazine is very important, it is the first thing the reader sees. The cover must attract people’s attention so they will want to flip through it. The cover image can have a huge impact, it can have a political meaning to it or have a picture of a celebrity. If a magazine does it right the one picture of the celebrity will do more that just show what they look like but show what they are about and who they are. For example, GQ did a cover with the Hip Hop artists Travis Scott. On the cover you see Travis Scotts name is in a font that is bolded and dripping to the left. The picture of Travis Scott shows off who he is by putting him in an outfit he would wear. The dark background helps to high light Travis Scott and make his features stand out more, like his tattoos. On Rolling stones cover they get political with the famous rapper Lil Baby. The background in the cover photo sh...

Title Sequence Clips

Title Sequence Clips                I always thought that the opening scene was used to get the viewer involved and invested in the film. This is true that is what it is used for but there is so much more that is happening in the opening scene. The opening scene can be used in multiple ways, for example, the movie Trainspotting introduces all the characters in the opening scene. The opening scene of Trainspotting shows that all the characters have no care left and do whatever they want to do. This is important to the story because it sets the personalities of all the characters and gives you an overview of who these people are. Not only that the opening scene lets you know what the main character is about, which is heroin.                Let’s take the opening scene for Pulp Fiction, the opening scene starts off at a diner with what seems...
